Safety

Winning races is fine, but we want all of our rowers to not only be safe, but to be reassured about their safety.Our boats are among the safest boats available.  Every boat we build has enclosed bow and stern compartments.  We also enclose the area under the seat deck for added buoyancy.  This can make the fitting of electronics a little troublesome, but we feel this is insignificant compared to your safety.  We are also happy to put polystyrene blocks in any of the enclosed areas at the production stage.  This will help to keep the boat afloat even if it has been holed, but will add slightly to the boat weight and cost.  If you would like to take advantage of this, then be sure to specify at the time of order.  Please understand that it may be difficult to remove these polystyrene blocks at a later date without major work.

Boat colors and boat names

The standard color for Swift boats is white hull and canvas decks, with black tips for the bow and stern, and black trim on the saxboard tops and wave breaker.  Deck tape is black.  We use 3 coats of a UV resistant polyurethane paint to help protect your boat.

We make only a small charge for switching the black parts of our boats to your chosen color.
For other designs we need your suggestion to be able to quote a price.

We would be happy to put your chosen boat name on the bows of your boat before packing and shipping, but please make sure to inform us of your choice of name when ordering. Our standard lettering is in ariel font, is all UPPER CASE and is approximately 5cm tall, in black.  There is a small charge for this.Please note that if you buy a boat from stock from one of our dealers, this service is not available.

Section Boats

All eights are section boats (2 pieces), in line with FISA's rules of racing. All other boats, singles, doubles and fours can be built as 1 piece boats, or for easy transportation and storage as 2 piece boats.   There is a charge for extra sections.   There will be an increase in boat weight of approximately 1kg for singles and doubles, and 2kg for fours and eights.

Reasons for the wide range of "over-weightedness" within any one grade of boat;
Sweep rigged boats tend to be less over FISA minimum weight than scull rigged boats.
Bigger boat classes tend (8s and 4s) tend to be less over FISA minimum weight than smaller boat classes (1x and 2x/-).
Boats for lightweights tend to be lighter than boats for heavy crews.

Coxed Boats

All eights are stern coxed boats, in line with FISA's rules of racing. Fours can be built as either top coxed/front loaders, or as stern coxed boats.
